Within the framework of Transport Sectoral Operational Programme for Transport (USOP), co-funded by the European Union and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Kick-off Meeting and Signing Ceremony for the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for Trabzon (SUMP for Trabzon) was held on 12 June at the Trabzon Transport Services Building.
The Mayor of Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, Mr. Murat Zorluoğlu, Mr. Burak Aykan, Director General for EU and Foreign Relations at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and Mr. David Moreno, Regional Director of TYPSA, signed the SUMP for Trabzon contract.
The contractor consortium partners—TYPSA, Boğaziçi Project Engineering Inc., and Kaiser Engineering and Consultancy Inc. – will jointly carry out the activities over a 26-month period. Following the signing ceremony, Mr. Jose Laffond, the consortium’s Team Leader, delivered a presentation on the project’s implementation progress.
Through SUMP for Trabzon, the objectives include improving public transport systems, enhancing cycling and pedestrian infrastructure, reducing traffic congestion, and promoting sustainable transport modes to encourage sustainable urban mobility. The project is expected to generate positive impacts on the environment, the economy, and overall quality of life.
